Taller athletes should approach the HYROX stations by cashing in the leverage that longer limbs give them on the pulls and ergs, and by ruthlessly cutting wasted range on the stations that charge you per centimetre of travel. Height is not a penalty. It is a set of levers, and the fastest tall athletes press where the levers help and trim their range to the exact standard everywhere the levers hurt.
The trade-off is real, so treat it as maths, not mood
Every rep on a HYROX station is a distance your body has to move, and your height sets that distance. On the ergs and the sled pull, a longer reach means more rope or more chain per pull, so the same effort produces more distance. On wall balls, sandbag lunges and burpee broad jumps, the same height means more centimetres of travel per rep, and there are a lot of reps. I build plans by treating the body as a system of levers, and the honest read is that height gives with one hand and takes with the other. The skill is knowing which stations are which and adjusting your technique accordingly, rather than copying a shorter athlete who is playing a different game.
Where your reach is a weapon
On the SkiErg and the rower, your job is to turn reach into distance per stroke. A taller athlete can afford a lower stroke rate because each stroke travels further, so aim for long, complete strokes at a controlled rate rather than a frantic short pull that throws away your natural advantage. On the sled pull, set up further back and use your full arm length in the drive so the sled moves more per pull and you take fewer pulls overall. On the farmers carry, a longer stride and a taller carrying posture cover ground efficiently, as long as you keep the bells close and do not let a long torso rock side to side.
Where longer limbs tax you, and the fix is technique
The costs are all on the range-heavy stations, and every one has a concrete fix that is about hitting the standard exactly, not exceeding it.
Wall balls. A taller athlete throws to the same target from a longer torso, so the ball has less far to travel from your hands, but your squat has further to go and your reps are more numerous because the throw feels easier. The trap is over-squatting out of habit. Squat to the depth the standard requires and no lower, catch the ball high with slightly bent arms so it loads your legs rather than your shoulders, and let your height do the throwing so you spend less on the arms.
Sandbag lunges. Longer femurs mean a deeper descent per step if you let your stride run long, and depth multiplied across the full distance is where tall athletes bleed time. Shorten your stride slightly so your trailing knee reaches the floor with the least descent that still counts, keep an upright torso to save your lower back, and drive through the front heel. You want the shortest legal rep repeated cleanly, not a long lunge you have to grind out of.
Burpee broad jumps. More body has to travel to the floor and back, so keep the chest movement minimal within the standard and make the jump only as long as you can land balanced and reset without a pause. A tight, rhythmic rep protects the run that follows.

Train the levers, not the average
The mistake tall athletes make is training everything evenly. Bias your strength-endurance work towards the stations height taxes, because moving extra range repeatedly without slowing is a quad and posterior-chain endurance quality, not a max-strength one. Drill the minimal-legal range on wall balls and lunges until it is your default under fatigue, when the temptation to over-squat is strongest. Spend proportionally less anxiety on the pulls, where your build already helps, and put those hours into compromised running, which is broadly neutral for height and decides more of the race than any station.
The hard part is knowing which of these is actually your limiter
Two tall athletes rarely have the same weakness. One bleeds time on lunges because of femur length; another is fine on lunges but throws away the sled pull by taking short, low-drive pulls.
