What is the core difference between the fibres?

Picture a single drop of sweat landing on each fabric. On cotton it vanishes inward, pulled straight into the fibre, because cotton is hydrophilic and attracts water into itself, so the tee draws sweat in, holds it and stays wet. On polyester the same drop sits on the surface, because polyester is hydrophobic and repels water from the fibre, letting the moisture spread out and evaporate. Multiply that single drop across a hard session and you have the whole story: one top saturates and stays heavy, the other keeps shedding sweat and drying as you move.

Why does that matter across a HYROX session?

Now stretch that soaked cotton chest over a torso fold on the rower, at minute forty, cold and clinging. The effect compounds over time and repetition. In a 60 to 120 minute session you sweat continuously, and a cotton top just keeps absorbing until it is waterlogged and clinging to the chest and stomach on every fold. Does polyester have other advantages for training?

When might cotton still feel nicer?
